ownership of community renewable energy
across Europe
We urgently need to change our energy system into one powered by renewable energy to end our dependency on fossil fuels and the harm they are doing to peoples, our climate and our environment. By putting communities and citizens at the heart of a shift to renewable energy we can achieve a transition more quickly, fairly and with added benefits.
The conference will focus on the following topics:
- Successful community renewable energy projects
- Legislative challenges across Europe
- Financing in Central and Eastern European countries
- Renewable energy cooperatives (REScoops) and financing

Community-energy: empowering local authorities and their communities to guide local sustainable energy roll-out in Scotland
Local decision-makers, planners, local government associations, networks and energy agencies are invited to participate in this free workshop addressing potential for roll-out of community energy in Scotland. The event will include topics such as how local authorities can invest in community energy, how they can access funding, and how local authorities and community groups can work together in renewable energy. Best practice from across Scotland will also be showcased during the workshop.

District cooling needs greater visibility in order to achieve its potential
The second workshop of the RESCUE (Renewable Smart Cooling for Urban Europe) Consortium took place in Bath and North Somerset (UK) in July. Technical experts met with local government representatives from across the UK to discuss the potential benefits of district cooling as an alternative to traditional cooling methods. Participants also took time to consider the various aspects of funding, planning and implementing such a system. It was seen as up to the local governments to instigate discussion, to act as convener, and to guide developers.
